Artist Chrissie Kerr has always been an arts & crafts kind of person even as a child, she would either be drawing on her notebooks or making some type of craft during her spare time. After receiving her high school diploma, she moved to Ontario and worked as a computer support technician. Upon her return to Newfoundland she attended College of the North Atlantic (CNA) and graduated with a diploma in Multimedia Development.  During that program she received the Aliant Women in Non-traditional IT Programs Scholarship. Two years later she graduated with a Visual Arts diploma and received the highest award from CNA, the President’s Medal of Excellence.

With support from the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council she will be exhibiting a series of relief prints of Newfoundland Flora and Fauna. These prints will be created using traditional Printmaking techniques such as Monotype, Woodcut, and Linocut.

Chrissie’s main focus in the Visual Arts program was Printmaking and Photography.

“Traditional Printmaking is a lesser known, maybe somewhat neglected art form and I am excited to let others know that traditional printmaking is alive here in Newfoundland.” says Kerr.

Kerr’s show will open on September 7 and run until September 28, 2011 at the Arts and Culture Center in Stephenville, NL. Come out to enjoy and view this unique creative opportunity.
